Chandigarh : February 16 : With an intent to share the lessons learnt from the unprecedented challenge of COVID-19, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh in collaboration with National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India organised a webinar on “Management of COVID-19 Pandemic: Experiences and Initiatives” today.
The webinar was addressed by Prof. Ashok Kumar, Addl. Medical Superintendent, Dept. of Hospital Administration, PGIMER as keynote speaker and participated by over 250 participants from different institutes across the nation..
While presenting the keynote address, Prof. Ashok Kumar, stated, “As we share the experiences and learnings of combating with COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to cherish our healthcare workers for bravely donning the mantle of being our frontline warriors in this grave health emergency,”
Throwing light at how the institute rose to the occasion during the COVID 19 pandemic, Prof. Ashok Kumar shared, “The Institute has been steadfast in serving the COVID 19 patients across the region from day one and till date PGIMER has taken care of over 3000 serously ill COVID positive patients. The health care workers spent hours cloaked in inhospitable PPEs, wearing fogged goggles, and accomplished their duties with great patience and fortitude, staying away from family and friends in self isolation and quarantine.
“They put service before self and risked their own lives to save the lives of patients under their care, ” added Dr Ashok Kumar as he lauded the team-spirit among healthcare workers that enabled the Institute sail through the crisis.
Dr. Raman Sharma, Asstt. Professor, Deptt. of Hospital Administration presented a lecture on ‘Responding to COVID-19 Pandemic: Tertiary care center experiences’ while acknowledging the hardships faced by the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who displayed unparallelled courage and compassion through the Corona Carnage.”
