India International Science Festival (IISF) to encourage students to study and work in scientific fields: Deputy Director, Ministry of I&B Webinar on “IISF 2020: Science and Atmanirbhar Bharat” organized today

India International Science Festival (IISF) aims to help youth develop 21st century skills and encourage students to study and work in scientific fields, said Shri Anuj Chandak, Deputy Director, Regional Outreach Bureau Chandigarh, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He said this in his welcome address during a webinar on ‘IISF 2020: Science and Atmanirbhar Bharat’ organised today by Press Information Bureau and Regional Outreach Bureau, Chandigarh. He further explained the various details about the IISF and highlighted that this year the number of events have been increased from 41 to 28 events last year.

Dr. Navneet Singh Aulakh, Principal Scientist, CSIR-CSIO (Central Scientific Instruments Organisation), Chandigarh informed the participants about steps being taken by the institute for upcoming India International Science Festival (IISF) 2020. He informed the participants that CSIO is planning to organise Science Village 2020, National Science Teachers Congress 2020, virtual visits to lab, virtual tutorials etc as part of IISF 2020. Adding further, he said that synergy among organisations is important for maximum output which is also one of the guiding principles of the institute. Dr. Aulakh also apprised about various indigenous technologies like portable ventilators, electrostatic disinfection machine, safety goggles etc., developed by the institute in the past few months for frontline workers and general public in fight against coronavirus.

Shri Himanshu Pathak, Assistant Director, Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh moderated the webinar. The session concluded with Shri Hitesh Rawat, Assistant Director, Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh presenting a vote of thanks to all the participants. Officials of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting from Chandigarh region and students from various schools participated in the webinar.
