Chandigarh.21 December,2020:District Child Protection Society working for the implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 under the aegis of District Magistrate/ Collector, Chandigarh Administration. For the effective implementation of Act, District Child Protection Unit conducted Child labour drive in collaboration with Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Labour Department, Anti Human Trafficking Unit UT Chandigarh and Childline 1098 in various parts of Manimajra UT Chandigarh on dated 21.12.20. Two teams have been constituted in which following officers i.e Mohd .Irshad, Child Protection Officer (IC),Rajesh Outreach worker (DCPS), Mr. RamPal Kataria, Labour Inspector,Mr. Arun Kumar, Junior Assistant, Labour Deptt., Mr. Sukhwinder Singh and Mr. Rohit Childine 1098, Gajendera Nautiyala and Mr. Puneet Sharma State Coordinator, Bachpan Bachao Andolan for the rescue of Children doing Labour on the various parts of Chandigarh.    

During the drive Nine boys age ranging from 12 to 16 were rescued from Motor Market and Rehri Market, Manimajra. During the drives children were found doing labour on the several outlets. After rescue Medical examination has been conducted of all the children at Civil Dispensary Manimajra and Children were produced before Child Welfare Committee Chandigarh and admitted in Snehalaya, Children Home, Maloya. As per the Section 75, Section 79 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015 i.e “Exploitation of a child employee’’ , CLPARA 3A ,14(1) (A)will be charged in FIR against employers, because children were working under hazardous occupation . In order to prevent child labour at UT Chandigarh District Child Protection Unit in Collaboration with Bachpan Bachao Andolan will conduct more rescue drives as well as awareness drives on the issue of child labour, so that the existing problem of Child Labour/Domestic worker will be diminish. Further Child Welfare Committee and District Child Protection Unit will assess the possible intervention and rehabilitation required by children.
