Government Land having worth of more than Rs. 115 crores recovered at Sector-56

Chandigarh.16 December,2020: All the occupants of the Pre-Fab Shelters at Sector-56 have been relocated to EWS flats at Maloya-I under the Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) Scheme of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Govt of India. This initiative of the Chandigarh Administration has not only provided an opportunity for dignified living to the families staying in the Pre-Fab Shelters but the government land worth more than Rs. 115 crores have also been recovered. The UT Administration is taking a view about best possible use for the valuable land.

This project was undertaken under the guidance of Shri V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Administrator UT. The whole process of allotment of flats under the Affordable Rental Scheme and smooth shifting of the families was closely monitored by Shri Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator who is also Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board. During the process of relocation, he visited the site of Pre-Fab Shelters and Maloya Housing Complex several times and interacted with the families at the both the places to ensure that the process is completed with minimum inconvenience During last visit of Shri Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for providing them opportunity of dignified living. The Municipal Councillor of the area also extended full co-operation to the relocation process.

It is a significant step for urban poor and will definitely promote economic activities also as per the ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ clarion of the Hon’ble Prime Minister which is the vision behind this unique scheme of the Ministry. The UT Chandigarh is the first State/UT in the country to implement the scheme and also completing more than 80% target within the short period of less than 04 months.
