86 units of blood collected at 208th Voluntary Blood Donation Camp by Thalassaemic Charitable Trust at PGIMER

Chandigarh: Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh
organised its 208th Blood Donation Camp on 15th December 2020
in PGIMER, Chandigarh on emergency demand due to shortage in Blood
Bank. 86 units of blood were collected from esteemed voluntary blood
donors for Thalassaemics and other serious patients. This Trust has so far
organised 24 Blood Donation Camps since 6th June 2020 and has
moblizied more than 2200 units of blood from voluntary donors during
COVID19 period.
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust is serving thalassaemics since 1985.
Presently about 450 Thalasaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities
in our two Day Care Centres in PGIMER & GMCH Chandigarh. Free
medicines are also provided to poor patients by the Trust.
Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic
anemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20
days is widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal
Hemoglobin level.
