Chandigarh.4 December,2020: To commemorate Pierre Jeanneret’s death anniversary on 4th December the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Tree Lovers (CTL) group organized the installation of information plates on the trees and shrubs growing in the Jeanneret Museum, Sector 5. The chief guest of the occasion Sh Manoj Parida IAS, Adviser to the administrator praised the effort of the group to raise awareness about the green Heritage of the city. The event was attended by Director Tourism, Smt Nitika Panwar, and Chief Architect, Punjab, Smt. Sapna Prabhakar, Sh M L Sarin, and other dignitaries.
CTL provided the technical and financial support for installing the name plates and a listing of all existing plants was done by its expert Dr Harjit Singh Dhillon beforehand who also ensured that the name plate design is in accordance with environmental norms. He informed that in keeping with the vision of Dr M S Randhawa to have productive landscape along with ornamental plants in the city, Jeanneret house too has an interesting mix of fruit and flowering trees.
The Adviser was later taken on a round of the Jeanneret Museum by Deepika Gandhi, Director Le Corbusier Centre, who had overseen the entire restoration of the Jeanneret house curated and designed the museum dedicated to the life and works of Jeanneret during his 15 year stay in Chandigarh. He suggested that more events and activities like these should be explored – especially in public places like the Sukhna Lake to inform a larger section of society and boost tourism as well.
Gandhi explained that exercises like these -as has been done at Corbusier Centre also, draw attention of the visitors to the exemplary green heritage of Chandigarh that was embedded in the very DNA of the city by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret.
