Chandigarh sunita shastri:Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Department of Education, Panjab University organized a webinar on “The Reflective Teacher: Unlocking Online Teaching Challenges & Opportunities during the COVID -19 Pandemic” by Dr. Ashma Shamail ,Assistant Professor at the College of Science & Humanities, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, today.
Prof. Kirandeep Singh, Chairperson, Department of Education, Panjab University, welcomed and introduced Dr. Shamail to the participants. Dr. Shamail discussed the need for reflective practice. She went on to discuss the characteristics of reflective teaching, how it is different in face to face as well as online settings. She showed some pictures of how social distance is being maintained in real classes. She also discussed the use of some reflective tools, online instructions opportunities and challenges. She said that by rethinking and reflecting, teachers are able to navigate further into unexplored areas of teaching.
Dr Shamail concluded by giving some useful tips for reflection like reflective teaching journals, online planners, blogging etc and hoped that the epidemic ends soon.A vote of thanks was given by Prof. Kirandeep Singh. Dr. Shamail pursued her doctoral research from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. She has presented papers in several International conferences in Africa, South East Asia, Europe, the Middle East and India. Her publications in books include – Writers of the Caribbean Diaspora: Shifting Homelands, Travelling Identities 2008; New Ruminations in Indian English Literature 2009; De-territorialising Diversities: Literatures of the Indigenous and Marginalised, 2014; Asian Literature in English: Identity and Survival, 2017.
