Chandigarh, Sept 17 – Under a special campaign, Haryana Police have traced and handed over 1215 stolen/missing mobile phones, with estimated value of over Rs 1.28 crore, to the owners during the first eight months of 2020.
These mobile phones were either stolen or lost by people in various parts of the State.
Giving this information here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mr Navdeep Singh Virk said that from January to August this year, police had recovered these mobile phones and returned to their owners from time to time. After getting a complaint, our IT and cyber cell teams have tracked these mobile phones and recovered 1215 of these handsets. The recoveries also include costly high-end mobile phones. Haryana Police have been regularly working to trace such missing cell phones and more such recoveries are expected in the days to come.
Out of these, maximum 144 mobile phones have been recovered from Gurugram district followed by 133 in Hisar, 93 in Kaithal, 92 in Panchkula and 85 in Sirsa.
For most people cell phones are more important than their monetary value due to saved data including contacts, passwords and personal information, police have made it a priority to trace missing / lost / stolen phones with the help of technology. Our teams continue to track till it is activated. Once the handset is activated, police track the location and recover the device. He further said that this will be an ongoing programme, as it has been appreciated by people.
Mr Virk also advised the people to quickly report loss of mobiles especially smart phones so that these electronic gadgets are not misused by anti-social elements.
