NINE Celebrates World Heart Day, 2024
Theme- “Use Heart for Action”

National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) in collaboration with Trained Nurses’ Association of India, UT Branch Chandigarh organized World Heart Day from 21 st September to 25 th September 2024 on the theme ‘Use Heart for Action’ for raising awareness to empower individuals to take better care for their heart health. On 25th September, 2024 Symposium was held in NINE, Auditorium. The occasion was presided over by Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Prof and Head, Department of Cardiology and Dr.J S Thakur, Professor, School of Public Health and Deptt. of Community Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Dr. Sukhpal Kaur Principal NINE cum President, TNAI UT Branch Chandigarh, introduced and welcomed the Guests and the gathering and encouraged everyone to adopt heart healthy behavior and be a role model for the public. Dr.YashPal Sharma highlighted the recent trends in prevention and management of cardiovascular disorders. He also emphasized about the importance of having a healthy and pollution free environment.
Prof. J.S. Thakur elaborated upon epidemiology and recent data on burden of
Non communicable diseases (NCDs) in the Northern India. Around 150 delegates from PGIMER,GMCH-32 and Govt .Superspeciality Hospital-16 attended the event.
Ms. Neena Vir Singh Chairperson Program Committee, TNAI UT Branch, unfolded the theme of World Heart Day 2024,i.e. “Use Heart for Action” and gave a brief of the week long activities carried out as a part of celebration. These were Poster making and slogan writing competition, Health talks on Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases, and a Quiz competition. The winners were awarded with the certificate of Appreciation. Dr. Sunita Sharma, Associate Professor NINE cum Secretary, TNAI UT Branch Chandigarh, gave a brief overview about TNAI to the delegates.
Ms. Sumanpreet Kaur, shared the data on the Risk factors of CVD among nurses from Tricity. Ms.
Mamta Suryavanshi, discussed heart healthy behaviors and Ms. Bandana Kumari talked about
Empowering patients with Heart failure to self monitor and care at home. A half an hour Chair Yoga session from the department was conducted by the Collaborative Centre for Mind and Body Intervention through Yoga (CCRYN). The event ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Loyce Renuka, Chairperson Membership Committee TNAI UT Branch Chandigarh.
