Panchkula, February 20, 2024: Tricity’s well known athlete Rakhi Sharma (42) who hails from Panchkula has made the tricity proud at a national level by winning a gold in the 44th National Masters Athletics Championship.
Rakhi Sharma said that this championship was organized by Masters Athletics Federation of India in Pune, in which players from 28 states of the country participated. Rakhi said that she won the gold medal in the 1500-meter race. Rakhi said, “I am happy to have won a gold at a coveted national championship. I also want to take this opportunity to thank my coach Arvind Kumar who kept boosting my morale during training.”
It is noteworthy that last year Rakhi Sharma won the bronze medal in the 800-meter event in the biennial Asia Masters Athletics Championship (AMAC) held in the Philippines. She also won two gold medals in the Open International Championship in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia last year. What’s more, Rakhi won a silver medal at the Chennai National in 2023 and also three gold medals at the Nationals in Prayagraj in 2017. Moreover, she also won two silver medals at the Guntur Nationals and a silver medal at the Manipur Nationals.
