Punjab (30/2) at backfoot while chasing 144
Chandigarh, A valiant century knock from skipper Arjun Azad (179) helped UT boys to fightback against host Punjab on the third day of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy match being played at PCA, Mullanpur on Tuesday. After bowling out Chandigarh for 152 runs in their first innings, Punjab scored 317 and secured a strong lead of 165 runs. Earlier, Chandigarh while resumed its overnight score of 46/1 was further strengthened by patient stay of Arjun Azad. The batter scored 179 runs off 219 balls with the help of 17 boundaries and seven sixes. No batter at the other end could support the skipper. Harnoor Singh contributed 36 runs while Akshit Rana added 28 runs. Chandigarh amassed a total of 308 runs in their second innings and posed the target of 144 runs.. Emanjot Singh Chahal (4/86) took four while Sukhdeep Bajwa (3/83) clinched three wickets. While chasing down a modest target of 144 runs, Punjab lost its first wicket in the form of Satyam (1) in the second over, who was dismissed by Chiragveer Singh Dhindsa. Later, visitors drew the second success when Nishunk Birla trapped Emanjot Singh Chahal (16) LBW leaving the side 30/2 before the stumps were drawn. Punjab still needs 114 runs with eight wickets in hand.
