As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the 14th National Voter’s Day state level function was celebrated today at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, under the theme “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure” by the Election Department, U.T., Chandigarh.

Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh, attended the function as chief guest. Sh. Nitin Yadav, Advisor to the Administrator-cum- Home Secretary, U.T., Chandigarh, Sh. Pravir Ranjan, IPS, Director General Police, U.T., Chandigarh; Sh. Vijay N. Zade, Finance Secretary-cum-Chief Electoral Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, U.T., Chandigarh and other officials of Chandigarh Administration were also present during the celebration.

Sh. Zade welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries and apprised about the highlights of Special Summary Revision 2024, under which a grand human chain was formed with the help of 1000 young and many other creative activities like Nukkar Nataks and special enrollment camps were organised by the Election Department, U. T., Chandigarh.

The event started with the performance of Ganeshvandana in the form of Kathak by the student of PGGCG-42, after which a series of cultural performances, including nukkad natak, bhands, and medley singing, were performed by the students with the theme “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure.”.

Sh. Purohit administered pledge to all to cast vote and act as responsible citizens. He distributed voter cards to six young voters who were enrolled during SSR-2024 and also awarded the Best Nodal Officers, Booth Level Officers, and Members of Electoral Literacy Clubs who performed extremely well during the Special Summary Revision-2024.

During his speech, Sh. Purohit motivated young voters to cast their vote by sharing his own experience as a candidate in the election. Sh. Purohit shared his experience where he just lost election by a slim margin of 6,000 votes, and after looking up the reason he found that many voters didn’t cast their vote who were from urban areas. Sh. Purohit urged everyone to utilise their right to vote by casting their vote in the upcoming general election in 2024.

Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh gave a vote of thanks to the administrator for gracing the event and requested all the young voters cast their vote in the upcoming general election in 2024.
