7th International Standing Conference on Le Corbusier works
Chandigarh, 8th Dec. 2023: Chandigarh Administration today hosted the 7th International Standing Conference of the seven countries concerned, which includes France, Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Japan, Switzerland and India here at Chandigarh Secretariat, Sector 9, Chandigarh. The Conference was held on the Architectural Works of Le Corbusier, an Outstanding contribution to the modern movement and attended in person by the delegates present: Brigitte Bouvier, Bénédicte Gandini from Fondation Le Corbusier, Paris, Benoît Dubosson of Switzerland, De Graef Rudy from Belgium and Kazuho Nakatani from Japan. The other state members were present online through video conference. The presentations on the works of Le Corbusier were given by the each state parties.
​​At the 40th World Heritage Committee meeting in Istanbul, the Capitol Complex, Chandigarh in India was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016 as part of the transnational serial property under the title of “The Architectural Works of Le Corbusier”. Chandigarh hosts the marvelous example of the Le Corbusier architecture including the Capitol Complex. Since, India has assumed Presidency in year 2023, it was decided by the Fondation Le Corbusier Secretariat, Paris that Chandigarh will hold the 7th International Standing Conference of the seven countries concerned. Since, the inscription in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Conferences from 2017 to 2022, under different state party’s presidencies, has been held.
​​Chief Engineer, UT, Chandigarh gave a detailed presentation on the Conservation of Capitol Complex and a detailed presentation on Heritage Impact Assessment was given by the Chandigarh College of Architecture. These presentation were appreciated by all the representatives of State Parties.
​​From Chandigarh Administration, Sorabh Kumar Arora, Director Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration welcomed the delegates. On this occasion, Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, Rajiv Mehta, Senior Architect, Sangeeta Bagga, Principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture were present.
​​During the International Standing Conference, all the State parties exchanged their view regarding instruments of restoration and preservations which are being used by the State Parties.
​​The Decision of the World Heritage Committee regarding Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Ancillary structures, Holistic Development of Punjab and Haryana High Court and the multi-level basement car park project was also discussed in detail.
