PGIMER’s Department of Surgical Gastroenterology celebrated 3rd Founders Day
with Prof. B L Talwar Oration delivered by Dr. Vijay Kumar Mittal from Wayne State University School of Medicine, USA
Followed by 2 days’ CME themed on ‘HPB Malignancy’ addressed by Eminent Leaders in the field across the globe
The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology celebrated 3rd Founders Day on August 4, 2023. On this occasion the Department also held 3rd Prof. B L Talwar Oration which was delivered by Dr. Vijay Kumar Mittal from Wayne State university School of Medicine, Michigan, USA. Dr. Mittal is an ex Alumni of PGI and moved to USA in 1974. He has been on the fore front of various surgical procedures and also published more than 250 research papers and made more than 400 presentations. The Department conducted one day Surgical workshop where advanced laparoscopic,Roboticand open procedures for Cancer Gall Bladder, Cancer Liver and Cancer of the pancreas were shown to the delegates who came from different parts of the country. The delegates got opportunities to learn about the technical details of the proceduredirectly from the eminent, national and international leader in the field of HPB surgery.
This was followed by one and a half days of (Continued Medical Education) CME on August5th& 6th, 2023. The theme of the CME was “HPB Malignancy”. There were 8 international prominent speakers from USA, Germany, Japan, Holland, England, Abu Dhabi including immediate Past president of European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association(E-AHPBA) Dr. Ajith K Siriwardena, Manchester, UK. The National faculty included President, President Elect, Honorary Secretary of the Indian Chapter of International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association as well as President and the Honorary Secretary of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology.
Besides, all the other eminent leaders in this field were present during this CME. The speakers deliberated at length about the state-of-the-Art management of Liver Cancer, Carcinoma Gall Bladder, Carcinoma Pancreas. The merits of Laparoscopic and Robotic procedures and future direction in the use of Advanced Minimal incision procedures as well as liver transplant as an option were discussed by the experts. The foundation day talk was delivered by Dr. Ajith K Siriwardena from Manchester, UK about “Personalized Medicine for colorectal cancer spread to liver” as reported by Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Prof. & Head, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, and the Chairman of the CME.
