*Chandigarh Joins Hands with “Meri Maati Mera Desh” Campaign to Commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav*

Chandigarh is all set to fervently participate in the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign initiated by the Government of India as a tribute to the land that nurtures us all. Under the auspices of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, this campaign resonates with the spirit of unity, patriotism, and nation-building. A state event will be organised at Tiranga Park on 23rd August, wherein the grand celebrations will take place. The celebrations would commence from 9th August wherein a Marathon would take place from Sukhna Lake followed by tree plantation at Colony number 4 .

*A Meaningful Tribute to Our Bravehearts*

In the month of August, Indians across the nation will come together to pay homage to the soil that symbolizes our motherland. Through the gesture of taking a ‘mutthi bhar mitti’ (fistful of soil) and lighting ‘maati ka diyas’ (earthen lamps), citizens will honor the sacrifices of our veer (brave) freedom fighters who played a pivotal role in securing our nation’s independence and progress. Along with this, participants will commit to nation-building by taking the Panch Pran pledge, a solemn oath towards the betterment of our society and country.

*Honoring Our Heroes*

One of the central aspects of the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign is to express heartfelt gratitude to our bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation’s freedom. The names of these veers will be inscribed on the Shilaphalakam, a commemorative stone or plaque. These Shilaphalakams will be installed at significant locations like Amrit Sarovars or other suitable water bodies such as Sukhna Lake, Sector 42 Lake, and various public spaces including MC Community Centres, schools, Health & Wellness Centres.

*Amrit Kalash Yatras: Uniting Urban India*

The campaign’s fervor will reach urban areas through Amrit Kalash Yatras, where people from different walks of life will participate. These yatras will start from smaller urban areas, progress through larger municipalities, and corporations, ultimately culminating in Delhi.

*Pledge and Selfie for the Nation*

Every participant in the campaign will take the Panch Pran pledge, reaffirming their commitment to the nation’s progress. As a symbol of this unity, individuals will upload their selfies on the campaign website, demonstrating their participation and dedication to the cause. A digital certificate, along with a social sharing prompt, will be generated to mark this significant contribution. Event photos will also be shared on social media platforms to showcase the collective spirit of the campaign.

*Greening Our Land*

As part of the campaign, Chandigarh aims to plant 75 indigenous saplings at each event. These saplings will find their place in various locations such as gardens, MC Community Centres, offices, and educational institutions, fostering an environment of sustainable growth and ecological awareness.

*Felicitating Our Heroes*

Each program will also see local veers being felicitated, including living freedom fighters and families of deceased freedom fighters, retired personnel from Defence, Central Armed Police Force, and State Police Force. Their dedication and sacrifices will be recognized and honored during these events.
