Media Personalities speak at CMA Event
A panel discussion was organized by Chandigarh Management Association today, on the theme “Managing Challenges in Journalism” at CII Chandigarh. Manraj Grewal, Resident Editor Indian Express, Saurabh Duggal, President Chandigarh Press Club and Vijay C. Roy Special Correspondent The Tribune were the panelists. The discussion touched upon pertinent issues related to essence of true journalism, ethical reporting, effectiveness of RTI as a tool in journalism, role played by media in recent violence in Manipur, relationship between politics and media, media trail of female wrestlers protest, emotional well being of journalists etc. The moderator Dr.Ramandeep Saini, Director Principal Chandigarh Business School of Administration, CGC Landran engaged the panelists and brought to table the perception of journalism in the eyes of the common man and the panelists shared the challenges faced including threats, violence and even facing public aggression, while on duty.
The discussion also introduced challenges before journalism as digitalization has changed the pace of journalism. ever increasing number of news channels, social media influence and lack of support from consumers in terms of their hesitation to pay for newspapers. The session was concluded by veteran photo journalist, Swadesh Talwar who recalled old times and the current digitalisation times of journalism and change in the reading habits anld positioning of news in the print media.
A celebrity Punjabi movie actor, Baninder Bunny, made his special appearance and spoke on how theatre too contributes in changing the public view about various social issues.

Abhishek Gupta felicitated the speakers. Uppal also proposed the vote of thanks and promised more such engaging events in the year at CMA. Executive Members Dr. Navjot Kaur, Treasurer, Sukhwinder Bhatia, Joint Secretary, Jagmohan Bhogal, Gurpreet Singh, Rajan Arora, GS Thukral, Anil Anand and Patron Deepak Dhingra were present amongst the audience of over 70 including several past Presidents of CMA. This was the first event organised during the tenure of the new CMA executive council under the leadership of President Sukhwinder Singh Uppal and General Secretary Dr Jatinderpal Singh Sehdev.
