Meeting of the Administrator’s Advisory Council of Sports Department held

Chandigarh: A meeting of the Standing Committee of the Administrators Advisory Council of Sports Department UT Chandigarh at Lake Sports Complex Chandigarh was held on Thursday at Lake Sports Complex which was chaired by Sanjay Tandon. Those who present on the occasion include Saurabh Arora, Director, UT Sports Department and Committee Secretary, Col. HS Chahal, Col Irshad Khan,  Saurabh Duggal, President, Chandigarh Golf Club, Anil Vohra, General Secretary, Chandigarh Hockey Association, former Taekwondo player Gurpreet Dhillon and UT XEN Anil Sharma and others.

During the meeting, it was agreed that each member would visit three sports complexes and submit their report for their necessary improvement and analysis would be done till the next meeting as to how much improvement has been done in the matter. Chairman Sanjay Tandon told that during a sports program organized at the Multi Sports Complex in Sector 50 recently, he found many flaws in the table tennis hall and invited suggestions from the players present there. He asked the secretary of the committee, Saurabh Arora, to get the engineering department of the administration to intervene in this matter to rectify the shortcomings. Gurpreet Dhillon informed the committee that there is a lack of coaches in many sports to which the secretary ensured that soon coaches are being appointed in every sports discipline.

During the meeting, it was also proposed that at least one member of the sports associations of the city must be present in the upcoming meetings so that issues related to their sports can be discussed in depth.

During the meeting, many points of the Sports Draft Policy were also discussed. Saurabh Arora said that according to the policy, the scholarship of outstanding players has been increased from Rs 5000 per player to Rs 60000 per year, which is a good sign for the sports in the city. He was also informed that the corpus fund available with the administration is also being used to encourage sportspersons from the underprivileged section. Tandon also mentioned that in order to further promote sports in the city, he contacted Olympian Abhinav Bindra who suggested that the sports policy should also include the Olympic Values Education Program. He has also given the details of the program in this direction to Sanjay Tandon. International golfer Jeev Milkha Singh could not attend the meeting due to his engagement abroad.

In the end, a call was also given to implement the sports draft policy pending before the administration so that the sportspersons of the city can get benefits soon.
