CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh, India hosted two remarkable events on June 28, 2023 as part of one week one lab campaign. These events, focused on medical devices and innovations in materials for energy and environmental technologies, bring together experts, researchers, and industry leaders to drive advancements in crucial sectors.

The Seminar on Road Map for Medical Devices towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, held from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, is a key highlight of the campaign. The seminar, inaugurated by the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, DBT, Govt. of India, and Chairman, BIRAC, New Delhi, served as a platform to discuss and strategize the roadmap for achieving self-reliance in medical devices.

Dr. Gokhale talked about the aspirations of the modern india and how make-in-india driven drug manufacturing is going to change the medical domain of India. He talked about the prowess of India shown during Covid-19 times and it was an example of a very evolving aatmanirbhar bharat from the perspective of biomedical engineering.

Eminent speakers, including Dr. Sanjeev Khosla, Director, CSIR-IMTEC, Chandigarh, and Dr. Jasbinder Kaur, Director, GMCH, Chandigarh, shared their insights and expertise in the niche area of medical devices leading towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Additionally, two MoUs for research collaborations between CSIR-CSIO and GMCH Chandigarh an CSIR-CSIO Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Mohali, was also signed during the inaugural session. The seminar included a panel discussion on the Road Map for Medical Devices towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, featuring stakeholders such as government funding agencies, standard and regulatory bodies, clinicians, manufacturers, and industry associations. Plenary talks by esteemed speakers, Prof. T.P Singh and Dr. Rajiv Narang, delved into the development of scientific instruments, medical devices, drug discovery, and the clinical and user perspectives of the roadmap for medical devices. Furthermore, the poster presentation competition, “Advancement in Healthcare Technologies (AiHT 2023),” provided a platform for research scholars to showcase their ideas and network with peers, promoting collaboration and innovation in the field of healthcare technologies.

Innovations in Materials for Energy and Environmental Technologies

Simultaneously, CSIR-CSIO, in collaboration with INST, Mohali, and ACS-CSIO International Student Chapter, organized the 2nd Bilateral Meet on “Innovations in Materials for Energy and Environmental Technologies (i-MEET 2023)” from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the CII Auditorium, Chandigarh. The event aimed to foster collaborative and interactive research, highlighting present state-of-the-art advancements and future breakthroughs in advanced materials and devices in photonics, electronics, biomedical sciences, additive manufacturing, and more. Esteemed dignitaries such as Dr. Kannan Srinivasan, Director, CSIR-CSMCSRI, Bhavnagar; Dr. Nagahanumaiah, Director, CMTI, Bengaluru; and Prof. Venugopal Achanta, Director, CSIR-NPL, New Delhi, graced the occasion and deliver keynote lectures on futuristic materials for energy, environment, and sustainable technologies. The event also featured invited talks by eminent scientists and presentations by early-career researchers, providing a platform for young researchers to showcase their work and seek valuable suggestions from their peers and established scientists.
