The recent visit of the delegation from Milton Keynes City Council to Chandigarh has marked a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts between the two cities, aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration in the field of sustainable urban development. The visit comprised a series of engaging sessions and events that showcased the commitment of both parties to address climate challenges and promote sustainable practices.

The wrap-up session, chaired by Shri Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator Chandigarh, provided an opportunity to reflect on the valuable insights and fruitful discussions that took place during the visit. The session was presented by Ms. Madhu Mishra, Senior Adviser from the British Deputy High Commission. It served as a platform to express gratitude and present souvenirs to the delegates of Milton Keynes City Council, as well as to Ms. Caroline Rowett, acknowledging their valuable contributions in advancing the collaborative agenda.

The knowledge exchange sessions focused on two key areas: the Design and Architecture of Chandigarh and Life and Mobility. In the Design and Architecture session, stakeholders gained insights into the unique design principles and architectural heritage of Chandigarh, with a presentation highlighting the city’s distinctive features. The Life and Mobility session delved into sustainable mobility practices and showcased innovative approaches to address transportation challenges.

Beyond the knowledge exchange sessions, the delegation had the privilege of visiting prominent landmarks in Chandigarh. The iconic Rock Garden, a masterpiece by Nek Chand, captivated the delegates with its artistic brilliance. The Le Corbusier Centre, dedicated to the works of the renowned architect, provided a deeper understanding of Chandigarh’s architectural heritage. The delegation also experienced the city’s innovative infrastructure, including the Integrated Command & Control Centre in Sector 17 and a Public Bike Sharing Docking Station.

Led by Councillor Mr. Peter Marland, the delegation from Milton Keynes City Council demonstrated a shared commitment to promoting sustainable and low carbon mobility solutions. Supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK Government, this collaboration highlights the strong partnership between Milton Keynes City Council and the Chandigarh Administration.

The visit has strengthened the bond between the two cities and paved the way for future collaborations in tackling climate change and advancing sustainable urban development. The valuable insights and best practices exchanged during the knowledge sessions will serve as a foundation for further initiatives and joint efforts.
