Genomic Quiz 2023 organised in PGIMER Chandigarh
The Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit in support with Genetics and metabolic Unit and Allergy Immunology Unit celebrated World DNA Day on 25th April in APC auditorium, PGIMER by conducting a Genomic Quiz GQ2023 event for all research students of PGIMER, Chandigarh. A total of 23 teams with 69 participants (PhD scholars & research students) had given their entry for Quiz and Top 5 Teams amongst them were selected by a screening Round on 17th April 2023.
The Chief Guest Faculty for the quiz was Prof. Radhika Srinivasan Prof. & Head, Dept of Gynaecological pathology & Cytology, PGIMER, CHD) who were felicitated for their work in the field of Genomics over the past 2-3 decades at PGI. She inspired and motivated students and shared her experiences in genomics. The Quiz was won by Team of Ms. Neha, Diksha and Aarti Kumari from Department of Translational and Regenerative Medicine, PGI, CHD followed by Team of Ms. Meenakshi, Pankaj, Sandeep and Ms. Rozy, Sharun and Parminder who were 1st and 2nd Runners up respectively.
Honourable Director PGIMER Prof. Vivek Lal graced the occasion and gave away prizes to the winning and Finalist teams. Prof. Amita Trehan Unit Head PHO Unit and Dr. Prateek Bhatia, Incharge PHO Molecular laboratory and organizing secretary for the event welcomed the Chief guest and Director. Director PGI, Prof. Vivek Lal also addressed all students and researchers and inspired and motivated them with his trivia on genomics. He stressed young students to work hard and translate their genomic knowledge to the best of patient care.
The Quiz event was also celebrated to mark five years of next generation sequencing genomic services being offered by the APC laboratories to a large section of patients of pediatric specialties in PGIMER. The service since its inception 5 years ago has benefited and helped screen and diagnose more than 900 odd patients with different suspected rare disorders.
Dr. Prateek Bhatia shared this information on the above services with all present and also conducted the quiz finals. He thanked the Director PGIMER for their encouraging support in running the services and highlighted their plans to expand the availability of the same to more number of needy patients at PGIMER at an affordable cost”.
