INTERNATIONAL PHARMACOPARASITOLOGY CONFERENCE-2023, FIRST CHAPTER “ LEVERAGING THE DIMENSIONS OF PHARMACOPARASITOLOGY

The Experimental Pharmacology Laboratory(EPL), Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER Chandigarh is organizing a one day PHARMACOPARASITOLOGY CONFERENCE-2023, FIRST CHAPTER in view of the WORLD MALARIA DAY ON APRIL 25, 2023 under the aegis of Indian Pharmacological Society. Prof. Dulal Panda, Director, NIPER, Mohali was the Chief guest of the conference while Prof Rakesh Sehgal, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Dr. Anup Anvikar, Director NIMR, New Delhi were the guest of honor in the inaugural function.

The conference included talks by eminent researchers all over the world. Prof. Rakesh Sehgal (Organizing Chairman) delivered the keynote address on “Man, Malaria and Medicine: Till Now” wherein he shared his two decade journey of research parasitic diseases especially on malaria.

Prof Michael Spedding in his brief talk illustrated the role of IUPHAR for malaria control globally while Prof. Kamlinder K Singh, UCLAN, UK, and Prof. Inoue, Nagasaki University, Japan through light on the significance of nanotechnology and immunology of malaria respectively. Dr. Vineeta Singh, Scientist E, NIMR, New Delhi discussed various tools for the in vitro culture of Plasmodium, Dr Prafull Mohan,AFMC and Dr Altaf Lal,USA shared their experiences from field and the pharmaceutical industry respectively. Dr Neelima Dingra and Dr Ajay Prakash (Organizing Secretary) discussed the role of Bioinformatics in malaria while Prof Bikash Medhi (Organizing Co-Chairman) discussed the GLP guidelines in malaria research,
The conference was attended by more than 100 National as well as International students from all over the world.

The conference also included a practical session or the students wherein the students were given practical demonstration about the use of different molecular techniques in the field on parasitology. The conference ended with the take home message to spread awareness about malaria research for new drug development and motivate students to work on various aspects of this old scourge of mankind.
