A two-day supervisory and Inspection visit was made by Ms. Preeti Bharadwaj Dalal, Member, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, (NCPCR), New Delhi along with Mr Sandeep Chaudhary, Consultant, NCPCR on 10.4.23 & 11.4.2023 to Child Care Institutions and Women Institutions of Chandigarh being run by the Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh i.e. Observation Home for Boys & Girls, Special Home for Boys & Girls, Place of Safety for Boys, Snehalya for girls, Aashiana (Specialised Adoption Agency), After Care Home for Girls, SAKHI- One Stop Centre and Nari Niketan.
The purpose of inspection was to ensure that all the Child Care Institutions are being run as per the provisions laid under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015.
During the visit Ms. Preeti Bhardwaj Dalal interacted with the staff of the home, children residing therein and Principal Magistrate along with Members of juvenile justice board.
A meeting was convened today under the Chairpersonship of Member NCPCR, New Delhi with all the stakeholders working under the ambit of Child Protection i.e. Mrs. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Social Welfare; Member, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights; Deputy Superintendent of Police, Women & Child Support Unit; Head of the Department, Pediatrics, GMSH-16; Deputy Director, Department of School Education; Company Secretary, CCWDC; Program Manager, UTCPS; District Child Protection Unit , Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee and Assistant Labour Commissioner, Labour Department in order to discuss the implementation status w.r.t. to Child Care Legislations, Laws and Schemes.
Member, NCPCR informed the press that the Child Care Institutions (CCIs) of U.T., Chandigarh are providing healthy and safe environment to children residing therein alongwith good facilities, however with few modifications they can become Model CCIs. She also stated that generating awareness regarding Child Care Legislations, Laws, Schemes & Reporting Mechanism is the key to ensure safe & secure Childhood.
Further, Ms. Preeti Bhardwaj also urged the Media Personnels to report matters concerning to Child Protection on the NCPCR’s portal for grievance redressal i.e. E- Bal Nidaan and POCSO E Box.
