Efforts to popularize cricket among city girls will continue: Sanjay Tandon

Chandigarh: Two matches were played on the sixth day of the 18 day long Gully Cricket Tournament being organized by  UT Cricket Association (UTCA) in association with Chandigarh Police. The  first one was held at GMSS School Sector 35 wherien Team No. 158 beat Team No. 157 by 33 runs. Team No. 158 won the toss and put 124/6 on the board in stipulated ten overs with the fine contribution from Jai (42) and Vishal (29). Ankush took two wickets while Rakesh and Ravi shared one each. In reply, opener Rakesh’s innings of 47 runs off 27 balls went in vain as Team No. 157 could manage only 91 runs at the loss of three wickets. Manshu and Jai took one wicket each. Chief Guest on the occasion, Chandigarh Police’s ASI Bhim Singh awarded Jai with the man of the match award.

Only two girls teams in the tournament played their match at GMSS School Sector 19 wherein Team No 71 beat Team No 64 by nine wickets in a one sided affair. Batting first Team No. 64 scored 77/0 with the patient innings of  openers Chhavi (18) and Prachi (44). In reply, Team No. 71 surpassed the target in the eighth over at the loss of one wicket. Manimajra Police Station SHO Jasbir Singh awarded Munni as the Outstanding Player Award for her unbeaten 21 runs.

UTCA President Sanjay Tandon said that their efforts will continue to popularize cricket among city girls. He expressed happiness that the girls team has shown immense enthusiasm in Gully Cricket .
