Rotary medical mission team calls on Punjab Governor
· Rotarians to hold medical camp in Baripada, Odisha, from February 13-20
Chandigarh, 4 February:
A team of 24 doctors and volunteers will be travelling to Baripada, Odisha Rotary’s medical camp there 13-20 February.
A group of doctors from the medical mission called on the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh Shri Banwarilal Purohit, at Punjab Raj Bhawan today.
Former world President of Rotary Internaitonal Rajendra K. Saboo along with a few local doctors who are part of this medical mission to Odisha from 11-21st February apprised the Governor of Punjab about the project.
Shri Banwari Lal Purohit commended the dedication of Rotarian doctors for leaving their thriving practice back home and spend time in Odisha as volunteers to heal the people away from their homes.
He wished the team members all success in their mission and said that nothing can match their humanitarian contribution to society. .
Rajendra K. Saboo informed that the medical missions to African countries started in 1998 and later in 2006, the project was commenced in India too to serve the underprivileged people living in remote parts of the country where either the medical services were not available or were not sufficient to serve the large number of diseased patients.
This is the 16th medical mission within the country medical camp to Baripada was first held in 2007 when over 5000 patients were examined in the OPD and 900 surgeries were conducted, informed Rajendra Saboo. This is the second time the medical mission goes to Baripada.
Rotarian teams of doctors and volunteers have served in various remote parts of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir.
This year, the team of doctors from Rotary District 3080 will have 16 doctors from Anesthesiology, Dermatology, ENT, General surgeon, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgeon, led by Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo, his wife Usha Saboo, and mission director past district governor Rtn Subhash Garg.
Doctors from Chandigarh includes Dr. Shankar M. Gosavi (Anes.), Dr. Surinder S. Sodhi (Anes.), Dr. Bhushan Kumar (Derma), Dr. Sasank (ENT), Dr. Girish G. Gune (Gen.), Dr. Sarla Malhotra (Gynae.), Dr. Vineet Nagpal (Gynae.), anil Dr. K. Verma (Optha.), Pragya Saini (Optha.), Nivedita Singh (Optha.), Sushil K. Saini (Optha.), Dr. SPS Grewal (Optha.), Dr. Ravjit Singh (Ortho.), Dr. Devendra Paliwal (Ortho.), Dr. Chanjiv S. Mehta (Plastic Surgery) and Dr. Surinder S. Makkar (Plastic Surgery).
The team will take off from Chandigarh on 11th February and return on 21st February with Indigo Airlines as a travel partner for carrying the medical equipment and medicines for the camp.
