Under the celebration of “International Girl Child Week”, two days Special Health Camp organized by POSHAN Abhiyaan, Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development in convergence with the Department of the Health & Family Welfare (DH&FW) and other line departments at Bal Bhawan, Sector-23, Chandigarh. The camp’s objective is to address malnutrition challenges in identified SAM (Severely Acute Malnourished) children of UT Chandigarh. The camp was started with the Balloon release ceremony by Ms. Nitika Pawar, IAS, Secretary Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration along with Ms. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Social Welfare, Mr. Naveen, DANICS, and Deputy Director Social Welfare.

In the camp, different stalls have been put up for the management and care of SAM children and further to sensitize the Parents on preventive measures to be taken for their children. Specialists from GMSH 16, PGIMER, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Medical College, Mohali, Medical officers from the Department of AYUSH, Yoga Experts from Yoga College have consulted with the beneficiaries i.e. SAM Children and their caretakers. Further, the Special Games Corner has been displayed wherein Parents of SAM Children learned to tackle with the problem of Malnutrition (Kuposhan) through fun and learning games.

Further, for the engagement of SAM children during the event special Puppet Show has been displayed by the team from the Department of Song & Drama Division, Central Bureau of Communication, Chandigarh. Moreover, a unique Snake & Ladder game based on promotion of Millets use in daily diet has also been displayed by the team of School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Moreover, on this occasion to promote the use of millets in the daily diet, millets recipes such as Ragi ka Laddu, Bajre ke Laddu, Millets Ki Mathi, Millets & Bajre ki Khichri, Ragi Ke Gulgule, Ragi ki kheer, and Ragi ka halwa were prepared demonstrated to the participants by the Anganwadi workers. The Ragi flour has also been distributed among all 35 SAM children.

Pick and drop facility has been arranged for all the identified SAM Children along with their parents/caretakers from their residence to the camp i.e. Bal Bhawan, Sector-23 Chandigarh.

During the camp, Dr Sadbhawna, Head of Paediatrics Department, Department of Health & Family Welfare along with team, Dr Poonam Khanna, Associate Professor, & Dr Rachna, Nutritionist, School of Public Heath, PGIMER, Dr Paramjyoti, Medical Officer, RBSK, Team of Mission Sakhsam & POSHAN 2.O were present throughout the event.

All the camp activities will be continued for the rest of the identified SAM children of UT Chandigarh tomorrow i.e. 24.1.2023.
