The Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the UGC-HRDC, organised a two-week Faculty Refresher Course on the theme ‘Indian Studies’ on 18.01.2023. The program is coordinated by the chairperson of the department of Education, Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur and the faculty member, Prof. Kuldeep Kaur.

Prof. Kuldeep Kaur initiated the program by welcoming the chief guest, Prof. Ishwar Dayal Gaur, a historian and a poet. She extended her warm welcome to other dignitaries, Prof. Jayanti Dutta, Prof. Nandita, Prof. Latika Sharma and the participant. Following this, Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur formally extended her welcome address and briefly introduced the chief guest and the dignitaries to the audience.

Prof. I. D. Gaur, the chief guest and the resource person inaugurated the program by throwing light on the multilayer meaning and context of the term ‘ Indian Studies’. He regarded ‘ Indian Studies ‘ to be problematic due to the involvement of colonial and non-colonial experiences. In addition, he regarded Indian Studies as interdisciplinary as there are multilayer aspects in Indian Studies. He sets a benchmark for how to proceed with the program considering these two important key features.

Prof. Jayanti Dutta highlighted the significance of this program and advocated the need for this program in the modern era. The audience comprised faculty from Panjab University and other universities and colleges from South India. The reason behind the introduction of thisprogram on Indian Studies is that there have been very few such programs so far, and this program would enrich the faculty members relating to the problems and prospects of Indian Studies.

To end the inaugural function, Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur, the program coordinator, presented the vote of thanks to the chief guest and dignitaries for gracing the program. She also thanked the research scholars for their contribution in arranging the program.

At last, the chairperson and the department faculty members felicitated the chief guest and dignitaries followed by tea break.
