The event is being jointly organized by the Departments of Physiology and Pharmacology, Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh and Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, Chandigarh from 13th to 15th December 2022. Dr. Anita S Malhotra, Professor and Head of Department of Physiology, GMCH Chandigarh is the organizing chairperson for APPICON 2022. The prestigious event will bring together members of the physiology and pharmacology community from across the country for three engaging days consisting of plenary sessions, symposia, oral and poster presentations and multiple networking opportunities.
The theme of the 68th National conference of the APPI is “Translational medicine: Molecule to Individual”. This year’s theme stresses the necessity of employing a holistic approach in medical research so that the basic sciences, while maintaining their fundamental nature, are integrated into mainstream medicine.
The conference was inaugurated by chief guest – Dr. Nanduri Prabhakar, Director of Institute for Integrative Physiology and Center for Systems Biology of Oxygen Sensing at University of Chicago and guest of honor – Dr. J L Meena from Medical Assessment and Rating Board, National Medical Council. The keynote address – oxygen sensing in health and disease, was delivered by Dr. Nanduri Prabhakar.
The day’s program included dedicated sessions focussing on developing novel targets to treat cardiometabolic and cerebrovascular disorders by Dr Pratik Thakkar, role of phosphodiesterase in cardio protection and cancer by Dr Rakesh Kukreja and systems biology approaches to understand viral infections by Dr Narendra Dixit. In addition, there were symposia on wide variety of topics including translational research in basic medical sciences, sleep health, neurophysiological mechanisms of attention, CBME curriculum in physiology and pharmacology amongst others.
