Sh. Dharmpal, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh inaugurated the Waiting Hall at GMSH-16, Chandigarh for patients’ attendants in the presence of Sh. Yashpal Garg, IAS, Secretary Health, U.T., Dr Suman Singh Director Health Services Chandigarh, Ms Sagarika Jain Executive Director Vardhman group of Industries and other senior Officials of the health department.

The Health Secretary apprised the Adviser about the waiting hall constructed through the aegis of Vardhman Textiles Ltd., Ludhiana as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative approximately at a cost of about Rs. 43 lakhs.

Ms Sagarika Jain Executive Director Vardhman group of Industries stated that their company would like to further associate with the Chandigarh Administration for CSR activities particularly in Health Sector.

Director Health Services, U.T., Chandigarh, stated that the waiting hall has a capacity to seat about 150 patients/attendants at any given time and the waiting hall has a provision for cross ventilation, is well lit and airy with an adequate lighting, fans and water cooler with for public comfort and convenience. A large screen television is also available to entertain and educate those waiting about the various programmes and initiatives of the Health Department.

Dr. V.K. Nagpal, Medical Superintendent, GMSH-16 made special mention of the pre- fabricated, neat and clean separate toilets for men and women.

Shri Dharmpal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh while welcoming this novel initiative, appealed to the public to obtain maximum benefits of the waiting hall to avoid unnecessary crowds, especially in the emergency wing in order to allow medical professionals to do their duties more efficiently and to be able to deliver even better patient care.
