Union Territory Child Protection Society (UTCPS) under the aegis of Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, has organized a three days Comprehensive Training and Capacity Building Program from 15th – 17th June 2022 at U.T., Guest House Chandigarh, on Integrated Approaches & Methods in Child Protection viz-a-viz Mental Health & Psychosocial Care
This is done in collaboration with NIMHANS under its project SAMVAD (Support, Advocacy & Mental Health Interventions for Children in vulnerable Circumstances & Distress)- a National Initiative & Integrated Resource for Child Protection, Mental Health and Psychosocial Care, supported by Ministry of Women & Child Development with an aim to strengthen & implement mandate of children protection and welfare issues across the country.
Smt. Nitika Pawar, Chairperson, UTCPS-cum-Secretary Social Welfare, Women & Child Development inaugurated the training program in the presence of Smt. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR; Smt. Shalini Chetal, Member Secretary, UTCPS-cum-Director Social Welfare; Dr. Satinder Kaur Sachdeva, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee.
Smt. Nitika Pawar encouraged everyone to pro-actively participate in all the activities and to make most of this opportunity in order to strengthen the existing robust prevention mechanism for children of Chandigarh.
The training was attended by approximately 60 Counselors and Officials from Child Care Institutions of Chandigarh, Department of Education, Childline-1098, Child Helpline-181 and ICDS.
The purpose of the program is to enable the participants to gain a deeper insight on different domains of Child Development, Strategies to deal with behavioral issues of Children, Communication Skills and Techniques to deal with children in need of care & protection.
On first day of the program, i. the facilitators Ms. Aakanksha Kulkarni and Ms. Kritii Tikku, Project Officer, SAMVAD from National Poineer institute NIMHANS were enlightened about Children & Childhood and Reconnecting with Childhood followed by understanding of the domains of Child Development including Physical, Speech & Language, Cognitive, Social and Emotional Development.
They also carried out a Child Development activity to understand concepts, opportunities and needs & abilities of children in different age groups.
On 16th & 17th June 2022, the focus of training will be to equip the participants with knowledge and skills related to identification of Emotional & Behavioral problems, Techniques of Communication with Children including Rapport Building, Listening Skills, Acknowledgement of Emotions, Non-Judgmental attitude etc.
