PGI Radiology Department hosts Annual Interventional Radiology Conference.
7th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh State Branches) was hosted by Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Prof. M.S.Sandhu, Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging PGI, and President of the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (State Branch) and Chairman of this Conference said this important conference was held after a gap of around 3 years due to the covid pandemic. The main motto of this Society is to train, teach and develop skills amongst Radiologists in the emerging field of Interventional Radiology via National Conferences, Workshops and Outreach programs stated Prof. Sandhu
Speakers and Delegates from all over the country participated in this meeting and didactic lectures on many important topics like Interventions in Stroke, Brain haemorrhage, bleeding from the bowel, post partum haemorrhage, Interventions in Haemoptysis and other such Interventions in Emergency Radiology were held. The Meet was inaugurated by
Prof. G.D. Puri, Dean Academics, PGIMER.
Prof. Sandhu elaborated that PGI is a National leader in the field of Interventional Radiology and many very advanced and sophisticated procedures like Cryoablation and Irreversible Electroporation for treating unresectable cancers are being done in this Department, which are Not available anywhere else in India. He said PGI has amongst the largest and best equipped Radiology Departments in the country, and it was the first Department in India to start the Intervention Radiology OPD Clinic a few years ago.
Prof.Ajay Kumar, Organizing Secretary of this Conference stated that the first 3 year DM course in Interventional Radiology in India was started in PGI a few years ago, making the Department a National leader in Interventional Radiology.
Eminent speakers in the conference included Prof. Mandeep Kang, Prof. Naveen Kalra, (President Elect of the Society), Dr Arun Gupta, Dr Chirag, Dr Ujjwal, Dr Harish and Dr Anuj.
The meeting concluded with a hands-on workshop for training postgraduates for doing interventional procedures like angiographically guided coiling, biopsies and drainages by using simulators and mannequins said Prof. Ajay Kumar, Organizing Secretary of the 7th Annual Conference on Interventional Radiology.
