Shri Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh launched Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) project in UT Chandigarh today.
User Manual for field officers was also unveiled by the Chief Guest.
The Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) Project is an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India with an objective to improve road safety in the country. The main idea behind this project is to create a Centralised Accident Database for hosting and accessing all the accident related data by various departments/stakeholders. The major stakeholder departments of this project are Police, Transport, Engineering/Highways and Health. NIC in coordination with IIT Madras has provided Orientation-cum-Hands on training to the field officials of various stakeholder departments such as Police, Transport, Engineering/Highways and Health.
Any investigation officer visiting the spot of accident will enter all the accident related details in this app such as day and time of accident, type of collision, whether accident is fatal/non fatal, weather conditions, etc. This data will be further used by all the concerned departments to analyse cause of accidents and formulation of strategies such as identification and rectification of Black Spot, engineering interventions, etc.
During this programme, Sh. Nitin Yadav, Secretary Transport, UT, Sh. Praveer Ranjan, Director General of Police, UT and various officers of Chandigarh Administration, Police Department and NIC were present.
