PGI resident doctors and staff bids farewell to Dr. Uttam Thakur, the longest-serving President of the Association of Resident Doctors.
A farewell ceremony was organized at PGI Chandigarh for Dr. Uttam Thakur, the outgoing President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), PGIMER. He has been resident doctor’s body chief for the longest duration in the history of PGIMER, Chandigarh, or of any student body union in the country, i.e., for three years and seven months. He was elected consecutively twice as the President of ARD. During his tenure, he did historical works pertaining to resident welfare in PGI. Many were pending for years, including the subject of foreign national doctor’s salary, all-around development work of sports complex and ODH gymnasium, a lounge for resident doctors, etc. He has done many humanitarian works and made a significant contribution. During the COVID 19 pandemic lockdown, he coordinated with various NGOs to ensure food and other essential supply for resident doctors. The farewell ceremony was organized jointly by doctors, nursing, physiotherapy, and other institute staff. His popularity was among doctors and extended to other cadres of staff because of his helpful and humble nature. On this occasion, he was also honored for his significant Contribution by the Student Association of Physical Therapy (SAPT India) and Nursing Welfare Association (NWA-PGIMER). Dr. Uttam Thakur will be joining as Assistant Professor in Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu. PGI doctors, students, and staff gave their best wishes for his future endeavors.
