Health Minister officially releases the First Edition of the book “Management of Healthcare Systems Edited by Professors at PGIMER Chandigarh.”

 

Union Health Minister, Ministry of Health and Family welfare Shri Mansukh Mandaviya officially released the First Edition of the book “Management of Healthcare Systems” on 3rd February in the office of Health Minister, New Delhi. He acknowledged the editors Prof. Sonu Goel and Prof. Arun K Aggarwal from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and Oxford University Press for publishing a book on a very significant subject “Management of Healthcare Systems”. He mentioned that in order to improve the health status of the country, the focus should be on  efficiency managing the Healthcare systems. According to the World Health Organisation, health system strengthening framework is the backbone for achieving Sustainable Development Goals. While applauding various management and leadership programs being conducted by Professor Goel supported by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and various state health missions, he reiterated the need for conducting similar programs at national level for development of adequate numbers of appropriately trained health managers at various level of health facilities. He added that this comprehensive, curriculum-based reference book would be an excellent resource for faculty and students of multiple disciplines along with state and national program managers.

 

Prof. Sonu Goel, the book’s editor, shared that there is a dire need of a book on health care management systems that explains the theoretical concepts through examples and case studies in real life scenarios of public health managers. He told that this felt need for the book was generated during interaction with students from different medical colleges and institutes of India. He supplemented this book will be an excellent read for professionals pursuing higher degrees in community medicine, public health, hospital & health management, and those practicing as public health managers in South Asia.

 

The multi author book written over a period of three years is designed to enable readers to understand the concepts and techniques of modern health management and how to apply this understanding in making the managerial roles efficient and effective, develop analytical skills, diagnosing and solving operational problems in the delivery of health care and hospital services, learning about appropriate strategies for effective planning, implementation and evaluation of institutional and community-based health and family welfare programs, and application of qualitative and quantitative analytical tools. The book has a practical and case-based content structure and format to help the readers develop an in-depth understanding of the subject and prepare for theory and practical-based university examinations. Subject experts from various reputed management schools in India have contributed to this book thus, bringing in extensive experience and quality to the content. The 31 descriptive chapters are well supported by practical case studies of well-managed/successful public health programs at national levels and a self-assessment section with every chapter.

 

During the event, Dr R S Sharma – Chief Executive Officer, National Health Authority, Dr Praveen Gedam – Additional Chief Executive Officer, National Health Authority, the representative from the Oxford office, Mr. Atiur Rahman, Zonal Manager, shared that the book is now available at the stores (online and offline).  Other Senior experts and the book’s author, Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Ex-Director, IIHMR, New Delhi, Dr. Jitu Lal Meena, Division Head (SPE) & Joint Director, National Health Authority,  Govt of India, Dr. Swati Singh Rathore, were present at the release ceremony.
