Education Department celebrated National Girl Child Day with all fervour.
With the closure of schools for students not dampening the spirit, the National Girl Child Day was celebrated virtually with all enthusiasm by the Education Department, Chandigarh Administration. The event was presided over by Secretary Education, Sh. S S Gill and DC Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh and eminent dignitaries from the Education Department, Social Welfare Department and Sports Department.
The virtual event started with a welcome song, followed by a dance on girls, both the items presented by girls from GGMSSS, Sector 18, Chandigarh. The highlight of the event was a mega felicitation ceremony of girl achievers from the Department of School Education. It started with honouring Tarushi Gaur, recipient of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Baal Puruskar, 2022 for her exceptional achievements in Taekwondo martial arts. Three girl students who have been awarded by CIET NCERT were also honoured. This was followed by felicitation of 10 academic toppers each of Class X and XII in the previous session. In a unique initiative, 10 girls from various Govt schools of UT, Chandigarh, who have had exceptional achievements in an array of fields, including sports, painting, music, public speaking, exhibitions et al were honoured as Girl Icons of Schools. Barring all physical odds, Usha Rani from Institution of Blind was honoured for her achievements in sports. Apart from the Education Department, three girl achievers from Sports Department were also honoured. Speaking on the occasion, Education Secretary Shri S S Gill lauded the efforts of the students, their parents and teachers and congratulated all the achievers, with motivation to strive towards success and higher milestones in the times to come. Interacting with the students on one to one basis, Education Secretary Sh SS Gill, DC Shri Vinay Pratap Singh and Director School Education, Dr Palika Arora praised all the students with an optimism that their success stories would continue to scale heights. A rap video on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, prepared by the students and teacher of GMSSS (26 TM) was also launched on the occasion.
