WEBINAR on Understanding and avoiding Plagiarism at UIFT & VD, PU
A webinar titled ‘Understanding and Avoiding Plagiarism’ was organised at University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development(UIFT &VD), Panjab University Chandigarh with the goal of stimulating research and educating students and research scholars about the ethical concerns involved in research and academic writing.
Dr Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson UIFT & VD emphasised that content providers, bloggers, researchers, and students must all understand the significance of plagiarism and the value of giving credit to the original work and the writer. This webinar was attended by approximately 75 students, alumni, and faculty members.
Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Deputy Librarian at Panjab University Chandigarh was the resource person for the webinar. He described what plagiarism is and why it is crucial for any content writer. He elaborated how to avoid plagiarism when writing Thesis, Dissertation, and research papers. He introduced URKUND and TURNITIN (Text matching or Anti Plagiarism Software) to all of the members attending the webinar and gave a live demonstration of using URKUND. Dr. Neeraj also explained how to correctly cite a source by using a variety of examples. Paraphrasing and features of different paraphrasing tools were thoroughly addressed.
It was an interactive webinar in which students asked questions about blog writing and thesis writing. Ms Kirti, guest faculty, UIFT thanked the speaker for sharing such a valuable information with the audience, which will help them in their future writings.
