Fake government certificates, Haryana Police nab two from Bihar

Chandigarh Nov 3 – Haryana Police has succeeded in arresting two accused from Bihar on the charges of issuing fake birth and death certificates by hacking the official website.

Giving information in this regard here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that the arrested accused have been identified as Santosh and Mantosh, both residents of village Bardauni Badi district, Samastipur, Bihar. Both the accused were arrested from their village by a team of Cyber Crime Police Station, Karnal Range.

Two laptops, two mobile phones, one CPU, one Morpo and one ATM card were also recovered from their possession. During interrogation it was also revealed that around 800 fake birth and death certificates have been issued by the accused by hacking the government websites in Haryana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and many other states.

After getting a complaint from the Principal Medical Officer, Civil Hospital, Karnal that the e-mail ID and password of the Birth and Death Certificate Registration Unit of District Civil Hospital, Karnal was hacked by some unknown person and fake online birth and death certificates are being issued by uploading signatures, which is completely illegal. In this regard, a case was registered against unknown accused under relevant sections of IPC and IT Act at Cyber Crime Police Station Karnal Range, Karnal.

The cybercrime team has initiated a probe and arrested both the accused brothers from their village in Bihar.

Investigation also revealed that for the purpose of issuing fake certificates, the accused along with their other associates had formed a WhatsApp group. As soon as a person came in contact with them to get the birth and death certificate, they would put a message in this WhatsApp group and a person named Vikas, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, used to hack the website and send link to this group. After which both the accused used to open the website of the concerned state’s birth and death certificate and issue a fake certificate of the concerned person and send the certificate issued to him through WhatsApp with his fake signature. The accused used to charge huge amount in lieu of issuance of fake certificates. They used to get an amount deposited in their account through Paytm or other digital medium.

Both the accused were sent to judicial custody by producing in the court. Efforts are on to arrest the mastermind and other accused involved in this racket.
