138 units of Blood collected at Voluntary Blood Donation Camp by
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust at PGIMER
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (Regd.), Chandigarh organised its 227th Blood Donation Camp at PGIMER, Chandigarh on 28th August 2021 on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janamashtami.
The camp was conducted under strict COVID19 guidelines and restrictions.
Total 138 units of blood was collected from voluntary blood donors in this camp. 26 blood donors were rejected during pre-examination by the doctors.
The next Blood Donation Camp by the Trust will be organized on 4th September 2021. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary requests all voluntary blood donors and groups to participate in this camps.
This Trust has already organised 43 Blood donation camps since 6th June 2020 during COVID19 lockdown period to help Blood Bank of PGIMER, Chandigarh to provide blood to Thalassaemics and other serious patients requiring blood support. More than 4275 units of blood was collected in these camps till date.
The Member Secretary expressed deep gratitude to Head of Department and staff of Blood Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER and all voluntary blood donors for their cooperation.
Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust is organising blood donation camps and serving thalassaemics since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalasaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in PGIMER & GMCH Chandigarh. Free medicines are also provided to poor patients by the Trust.
