Nutritional Care and support for TB and HIV patients on Treatment in Chandigarh
Chandigarh.24th August,2021:Food insecurity can contribute to poor adherence to both tuberculosis treatment and HIV antiretroviral therapy (ART). Interventions that target food insecurity have the potential to increase treatment adherence, improve clinical outcomes, and decrease mortality. There is convincing evidence on the relationship between the HIV and tuberculosis (TB) epidemics and malnutrition and food insecurity. As a result, the integration of food and nutritional support becomes very important.
To strengthen the Program, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society in association with Rotary Chandigarh Midtown launched HIV/TB free distribution of nutritional supplements to HIV/TB co-infected patients in Chandigarh. The program was launched at ART Centre, PGIMER by Rotarian Ajay Madan District Governor – RID 3080. Dr. Vanita Gupta, Project Director, CSACS informed that today with the help of Rotary Chandigarh Midtown nutritional supplements for distribution to around 50 patients. This program will be an ongoing project where every month nutritional support will be provided to HIV/TB co-infected patients attending ART Centres in Chandigarh.
