Field Outreach Bureau, Shimla under Ministry of I&B organises webinar on “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”

Himachal Pradesh has played an important role in the freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947. Professor Om Prakash Sharma,eminent historian and author from the state, said this in a webinar as the chief guest. The webinar was organized by the Field Outreach Bureau (FOB), Shimla, under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in observance of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

On this occasion, Captain Lakshmi, Associate Professor of National Cadet Corps Wing of Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Shimla informed the participants about the role of NCCin the Nation Building. She said that in NCC, students are taught discipline, brotherhood and to serve the nation by rising above the caste&religion.

Professor OP Sharmagave detailed information on the role of Himachal Pradesh in the freedom struggle. During this, he said that the revolution of 1857 may have started from Barrackpore and Meerut, but its heat reached the state. Professor Sharma told how the Indian soldiers of the British Army under Ambala Cantonment, influenced by the revolution of 1857, blew the trumpet of rebellion at places like Kasauli, Jatog etc. He said that between 1921 and 1934, Mahatma Gandhi visited Himachal 10 times. During this, taking inspiration from him, there was Suket Satyagraha and Jhugga Satyagraha in Himachal Pradesh. He talked about how the Pachhota and Dhami Goli incident awakened the people to fight for freedom.
Smt. Sangeeta Joshi, Assistant Director, Regional Outreach Bureau, Chandigarh welcomed the participants. About100 students of many other colleges, including the girls of NCC wing of Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Shimla participated in the webinar. The session ended with Shri Tariq Rather, Deputy Director, PIB Shimla presenting vote of thanks to the participants.
