XXXX NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY AND THERAPEUTICS (NWCPT-2021),

The 40th National Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology organized by the Department of Pharmacology, Experimental Pharmacology Lab, PGIMER, Chandigarh virtually(google plate form), started today. Prof. Bikash Medhi (organizing secretary) welcomed the delegates and informed them that nearly 100 delegates from all over India are participating. Prof. Bikash Medhi further informed that the delegates include faculty members and personnel’s from the pharmaceutical industry as well as postgraduate students. Eminent scientists from academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry (Ranbaxy, Dr. Reddy’s, Themis, Torrent, Novartis, Biocon) have been invited from all over the country to share their experiences.
Prof. P.L. Sharma, Emeritus Professor, Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Prof. Nilima Kshirgar, Prof. P. Garg, Dr. A.K. Gupta, and Prof. Y.K. Gupta inaugurated the workshop and addressed the importance of clinical pharmacologists in health care settings ranging from drug development, prescribing, and policymaking. Prof. Bikash Medhi had highlighted all the modules of the workshop to the delegates. It is a one-week workshop comprising of six modules. Then, Dr. B. Dinesh from NIN, Hyderabad and Dr. Shankar Narayan from Hyderabad deliberated about the importance of preclinical data in developing clinical protocol and about the early phase clinical trials in humans. Dr. David Lewis had a lecture on the Preclinical safety pharmacological assessment of novel therapeutic agents, current and future approaches”. Dr. Ekta Kapoor from New Delhi, Dr. Mukul Jain, and Dr. Sharad Sharma had a lively session about good laboratory Practice and quality auditing in good laboratory practice setups. The afternoon sessions include a practical demonstration of cardiovascular and central nervous system drugs. The day ended with a lecture on “Preparing a Protocol for Clinical Trial” by Dr. Ashish Kakkar.
The second day of the workshop was started with an inaugural lecture by Prof. Y.K. Gupta on “Indian GCP-overview and current scenario”. There were a total of 13 lectures by renowned Pharmacologist of India. Dr. Monica Tandon from Ranbaxy deliberated about the importance of preclinical data in developing clinical protocol and about the early phase clinical trials in humans. The afternoon sessions included lectures by Dr. RM Pandey, AIMS New Delhi about got the statistical aspects of clinical research, practical sessions on In-silico and Invitro techniques.
The third-day module on ethics was started with an inaugural lecture by Dr. Roli Mathur on “Overview of ICMR ethics guidelines for biomedical”. There were total 7 lectures by renowned Pharmacologist Dr. Naveen Sankhyan, Dr. Vasantha Muthuswami, Mr. Prashant Panchal, Dr. Nandini Kumar, Dr. AK Pradhan, and Dr. Balu D Gopal of India. Dr. Sanjay Gandhi from Mumbai deliberated about the Vaccine trial. After lunch session includes a practical demonstration of Pharmacogenomics, and a scientific lecture by Prof. Nusrat Shafiq and Dr. Nitti Mittal, PGIMER, Rohtak.
