Director PGIMER felicitates Chandigarh Covid Heroes for excellent management of COVID 19 on National Doctors Day

STRATEGIC INSTITUTE FOR PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (SIPHER) and Resource Centre for Tobacco Control (RCTC) under Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh organized a virtual event on National Doctor’s Day, 1st July 2021.

The event started with a video message on Doctors Day from Padma Bhushan Dr. N.K.Ganguly, Former Director-General of ICMR along with release of  his interview on SIPHER Health News YouTube channel by Director PGIMER.

Prof. Dr. Jagat Ram, Chief Guest of the occasion, felicitated Chandigarh Covid Heroes for excellent management of COVID 19 and saving lives of many patients during this pandemic.   Prof. Dr. G.D Puri, Dean Academics PGIMeR, Dr Amandeep Kaur Kang, DHS Cum MD NHM Chandigarh and Dr Jasbinder Kaur, Director Principal, Govt. Medical College Hospital were the Guests of Honour, who talked briefly about the roles played by the chosen COVID Heroes in COVID management.

Dr. Rakesh Gupta President SIPHER, Former Director of health services Govt. of Punjab and Prof. Dr. Sonu Goel, Director RCTC, PGIMER, the chief organisers of the program, while  introducing the eminent Guests talked about the role of SIPHER in advocacy on diverse public health issue like tobacco control, hypertension, eye health. Dr Goel and Dr Gupta told that the event has been organized to honor the COVID Heroes, who have turned tragedy into triumph during the Pandemic.

Dr. Parmjit Singh, DMS GMSH-16, and Dr. Manjeet S Trehan, District Immunization Officer Chandigarh, Dr. Sanjeev Palta, Dept. of Anesthesia & Intensive Care GMCH-32, Dr. Deepak Chawla Prof, Dept. of Neonatology & Nodal Officer For Covid Vaccination, from GMSH-32, Dr. Varun Mahajan, Asst. Prof. Dept. of Anesthesia & Intensive care PGIMeR, Prof.Dr. Vipin Koushal, Dept. of Hospital  Administration, PGIMeR, and Dr. Mini P Singh Prof. Dept. of Virology from PGIMER was honored as COVID Heroes with a citation and honorary membership of SIPHER. All the COVID Heroes shared their experiences and the struggle during hard times of the pandemic for saving lives.

All the Guests relaesed 14th edition of Tobacco-Free Times which highlighted national and state level events  of World No Tobacco Day, besides having tips for quitting tobacco use. Also, names of winners of the Story writing competition by Doctors “Ek Kahani Meri Zubani” was announced. Nearly 48 enteries were received wherein, Dr.  Dhrubajyoti Bora, ENT Specialist, JORHAT, Dr. Surbhi Tripathi, Research Assistant, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr. Anusha Sharma, Freelance Public Health Professional were provided prizes by the Guest of Honours.

Addressing the participants, the Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Jagat Ram Ram Head enlisted the achievements of PGIMER in efficiently managing COVID Pandemic due to selfless dedicated work of committed faculty.  All the Guests of Honour applauded the tireless work put in by doctors across the country during the pandemic and also congratulated Dr. Rakesh President SIPHER and Dr. Sonu Goel PGIMER for their contribution to Public Health.

Mr Arun Verma, Director Operation, SIPHER and Mr. Rajeev Chaundhary, RCTC anchored the program with a message that honoring such heroes is merely a small gesture and onne day is not enough to thank the Doctors and medical fraternity for all that they are doing for the society.
