Chandigarh, June 9 – In yet another step towards proactive policing, Haryana STF has busted an illegal international call centre in Ambala district which was duping innocent US nationals doing online shopping from Amazon.

Giving this information here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that nine accused who were involved in duping US citizens were also arrested by the STF by conducting a raid at a private establishment on Ambala-Kaithal highway.

Meanwhile, 10 laptops, about 200 computers, 11 mobile phones, one internet server and Rs 2.5 lakh cash have also been seized by the police.

DGP Haryana, Sh. Manoj Yadava congratulated the STF Haryana for busting the large-scale illegal Call Centre and saving innocent online Amazon shoppers from being cheated.

The STF team had conducted a raid after a long drawn operation to locate the fake Call Centre which was being run from Ghunghat Palace on Ambala-Kaithal road.

When the team reached the spot, a number of boys and girls were busy talking to people in English language on computers and laptops. They did not possess any valid government licence issued by the Ministry of Telecom for operating an international call centre.

Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the fraudsters illegally obtained data of Amazon online customers and made calls to the US nationals under the guise of Amazon support staff. They duped them by promising to refund some amount out of online shopping payment made by them. To save money, customers used to share their card details and funds were siphoned off from accounts.

A case has been registered and Police is gathering more information about the numbers of innocent people who have been cheated by the scammers through online fraud.
