Chandigarh, 04th June 2021: Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) celebrated the eve of World Environment Day. The theme of World Environment Day 2021 is ‘Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.’ as this year marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. While Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Sh. Debendra Dalai IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Chandigarh Administration said,” In the pandemic environment, it is imperative we start to focus even more on enriching the environment for a healthy future. We can inculcate eco-friendly habits in children from a young age. Simple activities like switching off light or fan when unused, planting trees are important to lessen the ecological impact”. At the program, he also announced that the forest area will be open to children friendly learning and activities.
Mrs Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR said, “CCPCR has dedicated the entire month of June. Immunity Ambassadors CCPCR will be spreading the awareness of healthy living and wellbeing amongst the children . Additionally, CCPCR will be undertaking many activities to promote children to connect with the environment”. Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS ,as well as Mrs. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR and members Mrs Pooja Punchhi & Dr. Monica Singh along with children of CCI planted 60 trees of different varieties including within Snehalaya. Commission also conducted the creative on pot decoration with Snehalaya boys, and Aashiana Sector 15, Chandigarh. Ms Gurmeet Goldie, Headmistress, GMSS Kajheri coordinated the workshop along with the art teacher of CCI.
On the occasion, Commission awarded 47 Immunity Ambassadors who have relentlessly worked in raising the awareness amongst masses. The Commission also has awarded the winners of Creative Workshop (Schools Category) namely St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, Chandigarh, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 33, Chandigarh and St. Anne’s Convent School, Sector 32, Chandigarh.
