Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh. VP Singh Badnore today presided over War Room meeting. The meeting was attended by Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Home & Sh. Sanjay Baniwal, Director General of Police at Punjab Raj Bhawan. Sh. KK Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, UT, Sh. Yashpal Garg, CEO, Chandigarh Housing Board, Deputy Commissioners of Mohali & Panchkula, Director, PGIMER, Director Principal, GMCH-32 & Director Health Services, GMSH-16 attended through Video Conferencing.

WAR ROOM DIRECTIONS

1. Dr. Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER stated that they have 365 covid cases in PGIMER, out of which 108 belong to Chandigarh, 114 to Punjab, 52 to Haryana, 22 to Himachal Pradesh, 18 to New Delhi & 51 from other states. He also mentioned that they have tested 9,852 covid samples, out of which 2,831 were found positive. Thus, the positivity rate was 28.74%. He also mentioned that they have created extra beds in PGIMER by utilizing the wards for accommodating covid patients. A total of 404 beds have been made available, out of which 76 are ICU beds.

Dr. Jasbinder Kaur, Director Principal, GMCH-32 stated that they have tested 2,877 covid samples, out of which 355 were found positive. Thus, the positivity rate was 12.5%. She also stated that they have 332 covid patients, 46 in Sood Dharamshala, 55 in Dhanwantry Hospital, 74 in Sector 48 Hospital and 157 in GMCH-32.

Dr. Amandeep Kang, Director Health Services stated that they have tested 24,816 covid samples, out of which 5,629 were found positive. Thus, the positivity rate was 22.6%. She also mentioned that the fatality rate was 1.14%, recovery rate was 81.16% and doubling rate was 44.5 days. She also mentioned that 10 mobile testing teams have been sent to different parts of the city for facilitating testing. She further mentioned that till date 2,35,000 vaccine doses have been administered and 55,130 vaccines are available in stock for above 45 persons. The UT Administration has placed order for 1,00,000 additional vaccines, which will be given to above 18 persons after receipt. The wastage was only 1%. She also mentioned that Special Vaccination Camps were held in Press Club, Sector 27, Sewa Dham, Sector 29, Sanatan Dharam Temple, Sector 32, Prachin Shiv Mandir, Sector 21-C, Customs & Central Excise Colony, Sector 37 and BSNL Office (opposite Piccadily Square), Sector 34, Chandigarh.

2. Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula stated that they have 2,452 active cases, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali stated that they have 8,910 active cases with positivity rate of 24.5% and Deputy Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh stated that they have 8,420 active cases with positivity rate of 22.6%.

3. Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh expressed deep concern about the increasing number of covid cases. He appealed to the residents to strictly abide by the covid protocol, so that the infection can be restricted.

4. The Administrator thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Home Minister for making available 70 bedded ESI Hospital in Chandigarh for use by Chandigarh Administration to treat covid cases. He directed Health Department to ensure that sufficient quantity of medicines, oxygen, PPE kits etc. are supplied to this hospital. He stated that with the facilities available alongwith the facilities being created by NGOs and Charitable Institutions, it will go a long way in reducing the burden and stress on government hospitals.

5. Hon’ble Administrator directed Health Department to improve the functioning of covid helpline. He desired that all persons ringing-up the designated number should be properly counselled and all medical assistance be provided to them, when required.

6. Hon’ble Administrator directed Chairman, CITCO to explore the possibility of utilizing Hotel Parkview for accommodating covid patients, who want better facilities on payment. He suggested that Indian Medical Association should be requested to run this facility in the hotel, which could be utilized by Chandigarh residents. Basic medical care and nursing should be provided in the hotel on payment basis.

7. Hon’ble Administrator reviewed the availability of oxygen in various medical institutions and directed that all efforts be made to ensure that there is no paucity. If necessary, specific quota for private hospitals in Chandigarh could also be fixed.

8. Hon’ble Administrator stated that with Army Hospital coming up on Monday in Panjab University Campus, the availability of beds will further improve.

9. Hon’ble Administrator directed that weekend curfew should be strictly enforced by the police authorities. The residents should stay indoor. Only essential travel will be allowed during curfew period. Detailed orders in this regard will be issued by Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh.
