Professor S.B.Bhatia, former Professor Emeritus, Department of Geology, Panjab University, breathed his last today morning, peacefully of natural causes. He was 91 years.He was a Fellow of Indian National Science Academy, he was an accomplished scientist and teacher.

He was born and grew up in Lucknow. After completing his PhD in Geology from Imperial College, England, he joined Panjab University in 1959. He retired as Professor Emeritus from Panjab University in 1994.
He made major contributions to the field of Geology and wrote over 250 research papers and proceedings. His son informed that his students tell that he was an excellent teacher, and a demanding professor. Over two dozen students received their doctorate under his guidance.
He did his job on earth with honor, courage, integrity and decency and now it is time for him to rest in peace. He was a loving husband, and as a father he left no stone unturned to give us the best so we could reach our fullest potential.
He will be put to rest today, and the family will celebrate a life well lived with a prayer ceremony at a later date. He is survived by wife,son and daughter.
