Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH organized 214th Blood Donation Camp on 1st May 2021 in PGIMER, Chandigarh. Despite complete Corona Curfew in Chandigarh, 74 voluntary Blood donors donated blood for Thalasaemics and other serious patients. This was 30th Blood Donation Camp by this Trust since start of COVID 19 pandemic.
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust has been organising blood donation camps and serving thalassaemics since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalasaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in PGIMER & GMCH Chandigarh. Free medicines are also provided to poor patients by the Trust.
Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level.
Shri Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh thanked all voluntary blood donors for donating blood in this camp. He also expressed deep gratitude for Dr. Ratti Ram Sharma, Head, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine PGIMER, Chandigarh and his team for success of this camp in COVID19 pandemic.
Next Blood Donation Camp by this Trust will be organized on 8th May 2021 which is also observed as World Thalassaemia Day. The camp will be organised at Blood Donation Complex, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Shri Rajinder Kalra requested all voluntary blood donors and social organizations to donate blood in large numbers to save precious lives during COVID19.
