Webinar on “Farm Laws &AtmaNirbharKrishi” organized today

Recent farm laws will help farmers in diversification of crops and getting better prices for their produce, said Smt. Devpreet Singh, Additional Director General (Region), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. She said this while addressing the participants during a webinar on “Farm Laws &AtmaNirbharKrishi” organized today by Press Information Bureau and Regional Outreach Bureau, Chandigarh, Ministry of I&B, Government of India. She further informed the participants on how various myths and misconceptions about the recent farm laws that are being spread with a mischievous intent to dissuade the farmers.

Shri Jasmohan Singh, Chairman, CII Northern Region, Committee on Food Processing, Agriculture & Dairy said that Government has shown a genuine effort and intent to reform agriculture economy with various initiatives in the past including recent farm laws. He further said that farms laws create a win-win situation for all and changes brought through these laws in agriculture sector should be seen with a positive perspective. These laws will help enhance buying power in rural areas and the Government is forthcoming to address any fear or misconception associated with it, Mr. Singh said during the webinar.

Shri Naresh Sharma, Chairman, Agricultural Produce Market Committee (Shimla &Kinnaur), Himachal Pradeshin his address emphasized that contract farming is an age old practice already happening in different parts the country and the various myths are being spread to make believe the farmers that they may lose their lands to corporates. If the Prime Minister is saying that Minimum Support Price (MSP) will continue and government is committed to the welfare of farmers, then his words should be trusted, he added.

Shri Anuj Chandak, Deputy Director, Regional Outreach Bureau, Chandigarh while moderating the webinar highlighted various policy measures and initiatives taken by the government to transform entire agriculture ecosystem and to ensure farmers welfare. The session concluded with Shri Himanshu Pathak, Assistant Director, Press Information Bureau presenting a vote of thanks to all the participants. Officials of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting from Chandigarh region, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and farmers also participated in the webinar.
