Chandigarh : October 26 : With an intent to facilitate Non-Covid
Patients, PGIMER decided to resume Physical OPDs in a limited format
from 2nd November 2020 onwards.

It was further decided that tele-consultation services being provided by
PGIMER should continue considering its dual benefit to the patient and the
institute. The tele-consultation will act as the point of setting up physical
appointments in the OPDs. Considering that patients will now be seen
physically also, the timings of registration for tele-consultation to be
made as 8 AM to 9.30 AM form 2nd November 2020.

It was also decided that the OPD would function as per the existing
schedule and the focus would be on limiting the number of patients in the
OPD and crowd control. It was reiterated that the Departments of
General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Paediatric Medicine.

Obstet and Gynaecology and Ophthalmology would be running daily OPDs.
The patients evaluated through tele consultation and requiring physical
examination will be called to PGIMER by appointment system. All
departments providing teleconsultation will write date of appointment on
the teleconsultation OPD cards of the patients to be called in physically
and have the same sent over to the MRO of respective centres. The MRD
will schedule the appointments as per recommendations of the
department in hourly slots and intimation about the same will be sent
automatically as SMS on the registered mobile number of the patient.
With a view to ensure adequate social and physical distancing, a fixed
number of patients would be seen in each OPD, 50 patients was set as the
default number for each OPD. This number will be suitably
increased/decreased as the COVID 19 situation unfolds. The house
decided that all walk-in i.e. patients who come to OPDs without prior
appointment will be dealt through tele-consultation only during this
phase.

The house deliberated that the departments which are running special
clinics and general OPDs would decide about the days of each and the
number of patients to be seen. A decision was also taken to provide
suitable PPE to various cadres of healthcare workers in the OPDs for this
second phase.

The Engineering section was requested to complete any pending work in
the newly prepared holding area for patients and all the departments
were requested to flag to the concerned if any infrastructural
modifications are required in their particular OPD areas. A meeting with
the security wing of PGI would be arranged to consider crowd control.
The department of Community Medicine has been entrusted with the
responsibility to initiate a screening system for patients who would be
called physically to the OPDs.
