Golf tournament with a unique objective – a pledge for Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, was promoted by Smt Meenakashi Lekhi, MP, New Delhi, and was played at the Delhi Golf Club(DGC) on the 9th and 10th of Oct 20. The Tournament received tremendous response with over 400 participants which included corporate heads, bureaucrats, junior & marginalised golfers and members of DGC took part.Amit Luthra (Asiad Gold medallist, Arjun Awardee, recipient of Rashtriya Khel Protshan Award from the President of India)* stated that he was happy to see that golf was being used as a medium to promote the message of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat ,as it it our juniors who would be our torch bearers & tomorrows future for a self-reliant India.The objective of the Foundation is not to hand out a fish,but provide a fishing rod to the hungary (talented juniors).

A unique element of the tournament was a contest (sponsored by the Golf Foundation) put together for juniors in which members children and caddies’ children competed together for a Skills Contest Mrs Meenakashi Lekhi was inspired by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi’s vision for Atm Nirbhar Bharat and want to use the medium of sports to communicate it and also get a pledge from our fellow countrymen to get committed to it. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the bigger context that all need to operate from and hence this and the other sporting events that my team has hosted” she added.

The tournament was scored on an Individual Stable Ford format where a player gets points for his performance. There were several prizes for different handicap categories to appeal all levels of golfersIn the skills tournament, most of the prizes were won by the Golf Foundations beneficiaries-Rakshit Dhaiya & Savdeep Kadian were the prominant winners.Subham Jaglan (Golf Foundation’s star,4 times World Jr Champion) was also present.He gave a lesson on putting to Ms Meenakshi.
