109 donated blood at the 201st voluntary blood donation camp by Thalassaemic Charitable Trust at PGIMER
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh organised its 201st Blood Donation Camp in PGIMER, Chandigarh today (26th September 2020) in which 109 voluntary blood donors donated blood. It is the determination of the Trust to mobilise maximum blood donors in COVID19 period so that Thalasaemics and other serious patients requiring blood support do not suffer due to scarcity of blood. With full cooperation and guidance of Prof (Dr.) Rati Ram Sharma, Head, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh and his faculty and staff, this trust has successfully mobilized around 1800 units of blood in its weekly blood Donation camps since 6th June 2020. Director, PGIMER has appreciated this Trust for organizing these Blood Donation camps in COVID19 period by observing social distancing and other precautions.
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust is serving 450 Thalassemic patients from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh by arranging blood Transfusions and free medicines to needy patients in its Day Care Centres at PGIMER and GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia while Blood transfusion is a widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level.
Shri Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh thanked all blood donors, Doctors and staff of Blood Donation Center, PGIMER for the success of Blood Donation Camp. All blood donors were honoured with gifts and Donor Certificates.
